First Aid Kits

Every boat should have a basic first aid kit aboard. Even simple things like a pair of tweezers, bandages etc will come in very handy when offshore. Fortunately, I have only had to use my first aid kit a couple of times over the years. Once when I slipped on the front deck (barefoot) and almost sliced my little toe off. Blood mixed with salt water and mud were everywhere. I was very thankful for some peroxide and a few bandages. Bottom line is when you are on the boat you are often hours away from professional medical treatment. A well stocked first aid kit and basic first aid training are as important as navigation and seamanship skills.
