City, Maryland Fishing Report
The fishing in the lower bay region
continues to focus on a mix of species with striped bass, bluefish and Spanish
mackerel being in the forefront. The striped bass can be found at most of the
more popular chumming locations now and although a portion of them are
undersized, few fishermen are having trouble catching their limits. Many boats
are trolling for striped bass and bluefish with very good success along the
channel edges and around schools of breaking fish. Captains who pick their
trolling speed up a few mph and switch to small spoons have been making
impressive catches of Spanish mackerel. Bottom fishing has been excellent for
spot in many locations of the lower bay and Tangier Sound. The spot are large
and plentiful. Large white perch continue to be available in all the tidal
rivers and creeks throughout the region. Fishermen jigging in the areas below
the Target Ship are making scattered catches of sea trout.
