Kayaking
by Capt. Dan Berg
Kayaks have become very popular in recent years. You
can now find kayaks designed for whitewater, lake, fishing, scuba diving and
many other specialties. Some of these boats require skill and experience to
maneuver other are sit on top designed and extremely stable (even for kids).
Best of all Kayaks offer the rider a fun, rewarding and sometimes exciting way
to enjoy the great outdoors. My kids love to kayak in the creek behind our home.
Its great exercise providing a great upper arm and cardiac workout. Others ride
the waves in the inlet or travel to nearby whitewater rivers. Anyway you cut it
Kayaks can allot of fun.
Within this web page you will find links to a
majority of the most popular Kayak manufacturers and distributors. Pick one that
fits the type of conditions you will be using as well as your own experience
level. Then go out and enjoy one of the best work outs available.
The Only Kayak
From Publishers Weekly
Writer and photographer Heacox delivers a genuine, deeply moving account of
the past 25 years he has spent living in Glacier Bay, Alaska, "the last wild
shore, nine hundred miles north of Seattle and nine hundred years in the
past." This work's title comes from the first kayaking trip Heacox took
there in 1979. As he explored the bay with a friend, they found themselves
the sole kayak in that body of water, "alone, and escaped, left to wonder
how long it could last, this wildness and grace." Heacox's ability to use
this tension—between the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness and the creeping
encroachment of modern life—is the thread that unites his varied
observations, and it's what gives the book its uniqueness and keeps it from
being another pale imitation of Coming into the Country, John
McPhee's late-1970s classic on Alaska. Heacox (An American Idea;
Shackleton; etc.)deftly renders highly personal accounts of life with
his wife and constant companion—especially a horrific account of her
near-death from hypothermia in a winter storm—and the development of his
friendship with Michio Hoshino, who became a famed photographer of bears
before an untimely death. He also offers a fascinating look at his own
development as a conservationist. The combination of these various elements
makes for a charming reverie on Alaska's past and a thoughtful look at its
future. |

Dragger Kayak
Product Description:
Look! Out there on the water, it's a day tourer! No, it's a
recreational boat! No, it's the Dagger Catalyst Series Kayak! The
illegitimate child of a touring kayak and a recreational kayak, the
Catalyst is the perfect "only boat." The Catalyst 13.0 is designed
for bigger paddlers, while its sister boat, the Catalyst 12.8 is for
smaller folk. Short length and a mild dose of rocker make the
Catalyst easy to maneuver while the shallow skeg helps it track
better. The Catalyst's light weight makes it responsive whether
you're accelerating in a straight line or doing whirlybirds in a
confined channel. Fore and aft dry storage gives the Catalyst some
tourability, and an adjustable high backrest and Aircore lumbar
support keeps you comfy while you decide what to do with this
do-it-all Kayak.
